IRU Secretary General, Martin Marmy, today signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with the government of Kyrgyzstan to promote
Euro-Asian transport linkages along the ancient Silk Road.
This agreement, signed in the Ministry of Transport of Kyrgyzstan,
foresees a multiphase cooperation between the IRU and the Kyrgyz
government to implement phase 2 of the IRU NELTI, including the removal
of obstacles to road transport at borders as well as the better
implementation of multilateral trade and road transport facilitation
instruments such as the TIR System on Kyrgyz territory.
The IRU Secretary General also met with the Kyrgyz Prime Minister
Igor Chudinov, theMinister of Foreign Affairs, Kadyrbek Sarbaev and the
Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Nurlan Akmatov, to discuss the
practical aspects of implementing the MoU, with a special focus on the
rapid activation of the trilateral agreement between Kyrgyzstan,
Uzbekistan and China aiming to facilitate regular road haulage along
the Kashgar (China) - Osh (Kyrgyzstan) - Andizhan (Uzbekistan) highway.
