UN Under-Secretary General says road transport is lifeline for landlocked developing countries

Geneva, 2012-11-09

In a written address to the IRU General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya, UN Under-Secretary-General, and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), stated, "I see a great future of our collaboration in the days ahead. In this globalised and integrated world of today, road transport remains a major mode of transport for many countries, most specifically for LLDCs. This is their lifeline. As it is so, we do not want to see any clogging in such a lifeline. We need to make the best use of all the potentials that the globalisation and a smooth, fast, modern and sustainable transportation holds for all the people. You are in the forefront of all that. It would be our pleasure to work together for a better future of all."
