EURO-ASIAN TRANSPORT PROJECT

IRU caravans

One of the priorities for the International Road Transport Union (IRU) is to ensure the development of goods transport by land between Asia Pacific and the European Union. To showcase the potential of road transport in providing goods deliveries along these routes, the IRU has joined efforts with its partners in organising demonstration road caravans along the following routes:

Lisbon – Vladivostok in 2004

Beijing – Brussels in 2005

Beijing – Brussels in 2005
Black Sea Ring 2007

On 16 September 2008, the IRU's New Eurasian Land Transport Initiative (NELTI) was launched in Tashkent and involved, for the first time, commercial goods transport along three routes: from Kyrgyzstan to Turkey, from Uzbekistan to Germany, and from China to the EU.
