Istanbul, 2007-07-10 The Black Sea Ring Highway Caravan delivers
The scientific conclusions of the Black Sea Ring Highway Caravan have been made public on 26 June 2007, on the occasion of the Caravan’s final ceremony and press gala staged in Istanbul, the day after the 15th Anniversary Summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC); and in partnership with the BSEC Organisation and the Union of Road Transport Associations of the BSEC Region (BSEC-URTA).

The NEA Transport Research Centre has analysed the data collected en route by the Caravan with regards to non-physical barriers to road transport, and has estimated the annual costs of these barriers within the BSEC region at a total of € 229 million for waiting times at borders, transport permits and driver visas. The analysis also highlighted the preponderance of unmodernised border-crossing facilities.

click to enlarge 		  A press conference, jointly organised by the IRU and the BSEC, was held today in Istanbul to announce the imminent arrival of the BSEC Caravan to its final destination. H.E. Ambassador Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, BSEC Secretary General and Haydar Özkan, IRU General Delegate to the Middle East and Region, promoted the official Caravan’s arrival ceremony.

click to enlarge 		  On 21 May, the Black Sea Ring Highway Caravan entered the territory of Turkey and was welcome two days later at a ceremony held in Trabzon.

Awaiting the convoy were the BSEC Secretary General H.E. Ambassador Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, the Mayor of the City of Trabzon, Mr Volkan Canalioğlu, the Governor Mr Nuri Okutan, the Head of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Trabzon & Board member of the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchange (IRU Member Association TODD) Mr Şadan Eren, the Head of the Commission of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Trabzon, Mr Ali Osman Ulusoy, Board member of the Turkish International Transporters Association (UND); Mr Hüseyin Sandıkçı, and Mr Haydar Özkan, IRU General Delegate to the Middle East and Region.
